Tourists at the North Pole

VLADIVOSTOK. 6 October. VOSTOK-MEDIA. At the last Polar Association conference specialists agreed on a new tourist route. In April 2009 extreme tourists will be able to set out for the utmost north – the North Pole. At the meeting presented famous travelers and explorers of Arctic Viktor Boyarskiy, Dmitriy Shparo, Alexander Orlov and Konstantin Zaitsev.
For one month in a year at the North Pole during a period since the first polar day until the ice melting “Borneo” is the drifting camp. Initiative to open a new route belongs to the Polar Association and Tour Operator Association – they traveled to the North Pole in April, 2008 and were so impressed that decided to popularize this route among tourists. The companies “VIIKAR” and “Poseidon Expeditions” are conducting this route now. The main tourists are foreigners, they comprise 80%.
In October at the annual fair “BSI Group” will offer a newly formed tourist pack. Since this year Russian tourists will be able to get a trip to the North Pole.
Vice-President of Polar Association, Alexander Orlov, explined camping at the North Pole: first, they look for camping, then set up 150 tones of goods (fuel, woods, tracks and etc.), and at last they construct a strip. And after construction camp is set up for scientists, sportsmen and tourists. Now camp takes around 150 people.
Tour agencies are going to increase the number up to 1500. Main base includes a messroom, several tents, each one accommodates 10-12 individuals; restrooms and saunas. Heating system works on diesel; air temperature is 15-18 C.
