National Database on Missing Kids to be Created in Russia

VLADIVOSTOK. February 24. VOSTOK-MEDIA – A national database on missing children will be created in Russia, Moscow news agencies wrote.

According to official statistics, the number of missing children in different parts of the Russian Far East ranges from a couple of dozens up to one thousand.

Experts say the overwhelming majority of the missing children are those who left their boarding schools or binge drinking parents in search of better lives. Such children are easily found but they are very reluctant to stay at their places of residence and soon they run away again.

Many of the missing kids are found safe and sound, but some of them the police cannot find for many years. In 2009 alone, there has been a two-fold increase in child sexual abuse cases in Russia. Often, children are abused by their parents or relatives. Children from such families often flee their homes and join those, who are searched by the police. Abused children as a rule conceal the reasons behind their running away. Too often, the psychological trauma of sexual abuse is so intense that people unable to cope with it for their whole life.
