The border operation Typhoon-2008 aimed at countering the illegal fishing of pollack during its season starts on March 10. The operation will be held in the maritime parts of the Far Eastern Federal District – Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Primorsky and Khabarovsk Krai, press center of the Regional Border Department reports.
This year’s take of pollack will account for 697.5 tonnes. According to the preliminary estimates it has already been used up at 36%. The most intense work will be held in the West Kamchatka and North Okhotomorsk fishery areas which have the quotas of 308 and 204.5 thousand tonnes respectively.
The counterpoaching actions of the Far Eastern Coast Guard has already reflected at Asian markets which are facing the 200% rise of prices for seafood.
