VLADIVOSTOK. 5 November. VOSTOK-MEDIA. Scientific community members could watch the elections on American TV channel in the residence of the U.S. Consul General in Vladivostok.
At the organized meeting members of scientific community, the U.S. Consulate General stuff and special guests watched the elections 2008. According to recent information, Barack Obama has become president of the USA, the first Afro-American president in the U.S. history.
One of the special guests, professor in Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service and PhD in political science M.U. Shinkovskiy, has called the elections 2008 unprecedented; the longest election campaign has brought the Afro-American candidate, Barack Obama, to power. Just 40 years ago no one would ever believe such could happen. According to the words of Mr. Shinkovskiy, current situation tells us that America needs changes and is ready for them. That is what candidate Obama proposes in his election platform.
Though, from the point of view on the Russian-American relations John Maccain is a more preferable candidate because Russian counterparts could have easier predicted the American external policy. In comparison with John Maccain, Barack Obama is less experienced in external policy and it is hard to predict how the Russian-American relations will develop in future.
According to the radio and television corporation “Voice of America”, the last election results are the following: Democrats have taken 338 votes while Republicans have gained only 155.
