A malware that is able to intercept data for check cards appeared in the closed ATM networks

VLADIVOSTOK. March 26. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The Russian information protection designer “Dr. Web” informed about appearance of malicious program in ATM networks belonging to some Russian banks. The malware is able to intercept data for their clients’ check cards.
The virus collects information about credit cards and PIN-codes of those clients that previously used infected ATM.
“The only thing that plotters have to do is to come to ATM, enter code and get printout containing data for potential fraud victims.’ –stated “Dr. Web”
Thus, a plotter may withdraw money from peoples’ accounts.
‘Dr. Web’ reminds that ATMs were already exposed to virus attacks, though, in the worst case scenario the viruses led to incorrect operation of cash machines. Moreover, virus infiltration occurred through participation of a bank staff or people closely related to a bank.
“Since ATMs are not connected to the Internet, there is a good likelihood that people that designed the malware were the ones familiar with this software and the structure of its password.” –stated the company.
