VLADIVOSTOK. April 3. VOSTOK-MEDIA – A firefight between the Thai and Cambodian soldiers occurred at the interstate border of the two states. And there is no information available about the losses of these two countries. This was said by the official representative of Cambodian Government.
According to the representative, the firefight occurred right after the detachment consisting of 40 Thai military men crossed the border of Cambodia near the Preah Vihear temple. Prior to this accident there had been a conflict as to who possess the temple.
The debates around the temple had been continues since July 2007 as a result of Hindu Temple was put in the UNESCO World Heritage List as an object belonging to Cambodia. Thailand did not agree with such a decision, because the boundary of the region where the Preah Vihear is located was not demarcated.
The verbal battle between Phnom Penh and Bangkok grew to open confrontation.
Thai and Cambodian diplomats have already held several negotiations on settlement of mutual pretensions, though there is no evidence that the negotiations were a success.
