KHABAROVSK. February 25. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Silver Smelt International fishing competition took place in Sovetsko-Gavansky district, Khabarovsk Krai. Okocha Bay, Sovetskaya Gavan, was chosen as the venue for the fishing event.
A spokesman for Khabarovsk Krai EMERCOM said 30 teams consisting of 400 fishermen from Khabarovsk Krai, as well as from Japan, China and Korea took part in the Silver Smelt.
The Silver Smelt featured several contests - the first hooked fish, the last hooked fish, the biggest catch, diversity of species, fishing hole drilling, cooking contest, tug-of-war and soccer.
Fishermen’s Gavan team won the hole drilling contest – they managed to drill 70 centimeters of ice for 12 seconds, equaling their last year’s record. The same team won cooking contest and tug-of-war.
Fishing Knights team became the winner of the nomination “the Biggest Catch”. The Japanese-Russian team Vanino-Tairiku surpassed their adversaries in the contests “the First Hooked Fish” and “the Last Hooked Fish”.
While congratulating the winners of the Silver Smelt fishing competition, Khabarovsk Krai EMERCOM officials expressed their hope that game-fishermen would continue observing safety rules for winter fishing, which had been demonstrated before the competition.
