VLADIVOSTOK. August 12. VOSTOK-MEDIA – A multilateral naval exercise will start in Vladivostok on August 23 and run through 29 as part of the North Pacific Coast Guard Forum. Official delegations and coast guard ships from Japan, South Korea, the US and China are expected to participate in the large-scale military drill.
A spokesman for Primorye Coast Guard told Vostok-Media that the Russian delegation will be led by Col. General Viktor Trufanov, deputy head of FSBs coast guard department.
The active phase of the maneuvers will begin on August 24, when the military will launch a simulated exercise to search a vessel sending SOS signal, to combat illegal activities on the sea as well as to salvage a ship in distress and its crew. Russian, Chinese and South Korean navy and aviation will start the exercise on August 24 and later, on August 25, will be joined by Japanese and the US navy.
Welcoming ceremony for crews of coast guard vessels of Japan, South Korea, the US and China will be held at 7:30 pm on Aug. 25 at Passenger terminal’s berth No. 2.
