Pacific Fleet Ship to Pay Goodwill Visit to Japan

The Pacific Fleet destroyer Admiral Panteleyev has left its base in Vladivostok and is heading for Hakodate.

VLADIVOSTOK. October 13. VOSTO-MEDIA – The Pacific Fleet destroyer Admiral Panteleyev, under the commant of Captain 1st Rank Viktor Sokolov, has left its base today Vladivostok and is heading for Hakodate, a port city in Japan.


The unofficial visit to Japan, which will take place on October 15 through 19, is aimed at deepening naval cooperation in the Pacific Rim and expanding ties between the Russian and Japanese navies.

The official program of the visit will include a number of events. The Russian seamen will pay a special courtesy visit to the Mayor of Hakodate, the chairman of Hakodate Municipal Assembly, and the head of Kakodate Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They will have a chance to familiarize themselves with the history of Hakodate, visit the city’s museums and historical sites as well as host a meeting with their Japanese counterparts on board the ship.

Incidentally, this is the first Russian navy’s visit to Hokkaido over the past decade, the Pacific Fleet said in a press release.
