Khabarovsk Private Fire-Fighting Station Stands Trial by Fire

KHABAROVSK. March 1. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The Khabarovsk Krai private fire station, which is located within the bulk terminal owned by Daltansugol OOO, Toki village, Vanino district, received an emergency call at 4:41 a.m. today reporting a fire in a two-storey wooden residential house.

A spokesman for Khabarovsk Krai EMERCOM told Vostok-Media that by the time the first fire fighting unit arrived at the scene of accident at 4:54 a.m. a room on the second floor of the building was on fire. Having considered the high inflammability of the building, a large number of people staying in the house and the thickness of smoke caused by the fire, the firemen decided to call for reinforcements. Soon after, three fire-fighting units of the state-owned fire station arrived at the spot. By combined efforts, and there were 15 firemen and four fire engines, they managed to prevent spread of fire and to rescue 10 people.

At 5:07 a.m. the fire was brought under control; at 6:47 it was extinguished. Officials say there were no reports of casualties.

Fire investigation officers have launched an inquiry into the cause of the incident.
