Officials Plan to Establish Special Economic Zone on Russky Island

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has signed a decree that calls for establishing tourism and recreation area on the island.

VLADIVOSTOK. April 1. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has signed a decree establishing tourism and recreation area on Russky Island, Primorsky Krai. This decision was made at the session of the Presidium of the Cabinet of Ministers shortly before his departure for Venezuela.


Elvira Nabiullina, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Russia, stated that Russky Island has a huge tourism potential. According to her, the tourism and recreation area will have a number of advantages, because it will be provided with the state-of-the-art transport and energy infrastructure, which is being created as part of the preparation for the APEC Russia 2012 summit, which will be held in Vladivostok. Experts say half a million tourists are expected to visit the area yearly.


In April Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Primorsky Krai authorities will draft an agreement establishing a special economic zone. The work on the demarcation of boundaries of the special economic zone will take up to three months. Officials say they will crate favorable conditions for investors on Russky Island.
