International Film Train to Arrive in Vladivostok in September

The FilmTrain project for the first time was announced on the 5th edition of VIFF "Pacific Meridian".
The VGIK`s graduate, operator and photographer Natalya Pavlovskaya presented the project of "Moviement Association" young cinematographers in Vladivostok. Its main point is to gather several international film screws and to travel by train from Moscow to Pacific Ocean, shooting the documentaries.
FilmTrain is a unique way of shooting invented by soviet cinematographers (in particular - Alexander Medvedkin). The film screw "Film Chronics Alliance" was travelling all over the Soviet Union in the carriages equipped for mobile film production shooting the newsreels, chronics, documentaries and screening it all over the country.
The modern FilmtTrain is an international master-class for young cinematographers. It will be held during the "Moscow-Vladivostok" express journey. In two weeks 18 documentalists from Europe and Russia will be travelling along the Trans-Siberian Railway stopping in different Russian cities including Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Sludyanka, Ulan-Ude, Blagoveshensk. During the trip they will shoot and cut 6 short documentaries under the common title "Where is Europe frontier?"
Many foreigners judge Russia by its two capitals. But Russia is not just Moscow and Saint Petersburg, it is also the Ural Mountains, Siberian taiga, the Baikal Lake and hills of the Pacific coast. Therefore the main target of the expedition is to make young Europeans depart from the stereotypes about Russia created by western Mass Media, refuse the false frontiers and develop their own opinion.
- The idea of traveling along the Trans-Siberian Railway shooting films is rather crazy attempt itself. Besides, the experience of participation in international film projects makes me think that this kind of films are appear to be the "Thing inside" - one of the FilmTrain organizers Nikita Sutirin says - Therefore we`ve selected the best European documentalists. Our main target is to obtain the interesting, professional film reflecting the different positions and opinions on Russia and its place in Europe.
The six short stories shot in FilmTrain will make up a full-length documentary about the modern Russia from those who live in it and observe it. The premiere will take place in September on VIFF "Pacific Meridian", later it will be presented on TV and different international Film Festivals.
