Petropavlovsk Preparing to Stage Hololo Aboriginal Festival

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. November 1. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The Hololo aboriginal festival will be held in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on Thursday, November 4, as part of the national celebration of Russia Day.

The Koryak’s festival of the mythological seal Hololo will feature a variety of aboriginal customs, ritual dances and songs. Since 2010, Hololo, along with the Itelmen’s holiday Alkhalalalai and the Even’s dance festival Nurgenek, is the public holiday in Kamchatka Region.

The event opens at 1:45 p.m. with ritual thanksgiving and purification. A ceremonial offering to the sea and the ritual feeding of seals will take place at 2:15 p.m. After that the public will be offered traditional food – Tolkusha. The ritual offering to the Earth and volcanoes will begin at 2:45 p.m.

The public will have a chance to enjoy traditional Koryak cuisine of meat and fish dishes as well as songs, dances and performances featuring aboriginal music instruments.
