Two commemorative plaques will be mounted on buildings to mark the anniversary.

VLADIVOSTOK. November 1. VOSTOK-MEDIA – A plaque-laying ceremony will be held in Ussuriysk on Tuesday to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Russia and South Korea.

The South Korean consulate in Vladivostok and the Vladivostok representative office of the Korea Tourism Organization are the organizers of the event.

The plaque will be mounted on the Boarding School #11 building, located in Gorky Street. In 1918, the boarding school hosted the 2nd All-Russia Congress of Korean community delegates which resulted in the formation of the Central Executive Committee of the Russian Koreans, which promoted the Korea resistance movement against Japanese colonial rule.

Organizers are inviting the public to attend the ceremony and learn about the history of Russian Koreans.

Another plaque will be mounted later that day on the 38 Volodavsky Street building to pay tribute to Choi Jae-hyun (Pyotr Tsoi), the leader of the Korea resistance movement and the chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Russian Koreans, who played an important role in the revival of the Korean nationalism.

In addition several Korean films will be screened at Ussuriysk Garrison Officers’ Club from November 2 through 3. Admission is free.
