Russia to Set up Military Police
Today, Anatoly Serdyukov, Russian Defense Minister will issue the decree setting up military police in Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
VLADIVOSTOK. December 1. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Today, Anatoly Serdyukov, Russian Defense Minister will issue the decree setting up military police in Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The information concerning the establishment of military police in armed forces appeared a way back in early October. In particular, it was reported that the military police will ensure compliance with legal order and strengthen fight against crimes in the army and navy. The military police, which will be directly subordinated to the First Deputy Minister, is expected to comprise about 5,000 officers, Novye Izvestiya weekly wrote.
At present, more than 40 countries have military police. The primary task of MP is to ensure compliance with legal order and carry out criminal investigations in the armed forces. Other tasks of MP include ensuring security of military installations and transport, traffic regulation, convoy of prisoners of war as well as prevention of crimes against military personnel committed by civilians and vice versa.
