VLADIVOSTOK. July 2. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Foreign researchers have finally arrived at a conclusion which has been evident to Russian doctors for some time - the leading cause of death among Russians is alcohol. They estimated that 52 percent of deaths at age group 15-54 are connected with alcohol abuse.
The research published in the leading British scientific journal Lancet, conducted by head of the Russian Cancer Research Centre David Zaridze in co-operation with Russian, British and French health professionals. The scientists analyzed 49 thousand fatal cases occurred between 1990 and 2001 in Tomsk, Barnaul and Biysk. Medical doctors made an in-depth review of dead patients records and asked around their relatives about the lifestyle they had led.
