Vladivostok Waterfront is under Reconstruction in the Run-up to APEC-2012 Summit

The project provides for the construction and repair of port installations and infrastructure along the coastal parts of Vladivostok and Russky Island.

VLADIVOSTOK. October 1. VOSTOK-MEDIA - At present the Far-Eastern city of Vladivostok is in the process of reconstructing and upgrading its waterfront. The projects provides for the construction and repair of port installations and infrastructure along the coastal parts of Vladivostok and Russky Island.


In 2008 the Primorsky Krai Administration has drafted a proposal for reconstruction of the Vladivostok waterfront in the framework of the program “Development of Vladivostok as the Centre for the International Co-operation in the Asia-Pacific Region” and submitted it to the Ministry of Regional Development for consideration. Subsequently, the project was awarded federal funding. The Government allocated funds for the improvement of the city’s coastal landscape, repair of berths, port installations and buildings running along the coastline.


According to the Department of Primorsky Krai Industry and Transport, the construction of cargo handling terminal at Pospelova Cape of on Russky Island is currently underway. Three of the six berths of the terminal have been already put in operation. The construction works are carried out at two start-up facilities. The first facility designed to handle dry bulk and general cargo and the second facility - solid bulk and packaged commodities, construction equipment and containers. The total annual capacity of the cargo handling terminal will be more than 3 mln tons.


The Waterfront Project foresees the reconstruction of the Vladivostok berths. After the reconstruction of the berth #2 and the berth #2A the total length of the berths will be 682 meters, the depth – 10 meters. Once reconstruction works are completed the berth will be capable of accommodating two giant cruise ships at a time. In addition, the berths # 30 and # 36 will be also reconstructed in the near future. The project documentation for the reconstruction of the berths has been already developed.

The Vladivostok Waterfront Reconstruction project provides for the reconstruction of faces and roofs of the dorms owned by the Maritime State University. At present the development of the project documentation is underway. The building and construction works are scheduled for Q12009.

The Federal Marine and River Transport Agency is the Government Contractor for all the projects involving the upgrade of Vladivostoks waterfront infrastructure., the press-service of the regional Administration told RIA Vostok-Media news agency.
