Alexei Intyuk and Natalya Galinina set in motion a fraud scheme to illegitimately acquire housing assets owned by the local navy base garrisoned on Russky Island in the name of nominal persons.

VLADIVOSTOK. November 2. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Prior to the commencement of the APEC 2012 Russia construction projects on Russky Island the Russian Pacific Fleet vacated and disposed of a portion of its housing assets on the island.

Alexei Intyuk, an official at the Engineering Service of the Pacific Fleet, and his fellow officer Natalya Galinina were quick to seize the opportunity. They set in motion a fraud scheme to illegitimately acquire housing assets owned by the local navy base garrisoned on Russky Island in the name of nominal persons. The fraud had been carefully planned and put on a large scale, resulting in huge losses for the government estimated at 6,953,000 rubles ($226,000).

Who knows how much money they would have taken if their illegal practices did not attract the attention of law enforcers. The investigation launched by Vladivostok law enforcement agencies into the suspected fraud exposed the unlawful activities.

On August 25, Alexei and Natalya were both arraigned in a Vladivostok court and charged with abuse of office and large scale fraud. Alexei and Natalya pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to 4.5 and 5 years respectively in middle security facility. In addition they were fined a total of 2,590,000 rubles ($84,000).
