China Penetrating Russia Media Market

VLADIVOSTOK. April 3. VOSTOK MEDIA – The Kitai (China) TV channel that has started broadcasting in Russia plans to expand over 80% of the national cable TV market by 2010, Sergey Savushkin, director general of the TV Channel Kitai Ltd., said at the first session of the channel’s Public Council.
Kitai started all day round broadcasting in test mode across the territory of Russia, CIS and Baltic countries in February of 2008. Now satellite’s signals are received by cable operators in 25 Russian cities and Kazakhstan. The channel plans to expand over Ukraine in May of 2008. 90 percent of the channel’s content is provided by the Chinese side.
