PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKIY. 3 September. VOSTOK-MEDIA. Chairperson of Legislative Assembly of Kamshatskiy Krai Boris Nevzorov welcomed Consul of USA in Vladivostok Tomas Armbruster having come to Kamchatka on business trip. At the meeting committee chairpersons and deputies took participation as well. Conversation touched cooperation perspectives between Alaska and Kamchatka. In particular, Boris Nevzorov suggested restarting a school exchange program which existed in the 1990s. School children from America came to Russian families and studied in Russian schools and then Russian schoolchildren traveled to USA for some time. Speaker of Krai Parliament says it gives good experience and language practice in communication with the peers. He also said that program could be partly financed by the Russian side not only charity organizations from the US.
First Deputy of Legislative Assembly Chairperson Valeriy Raenko suggested organizing a business meeting of Alaska and Kamchatka businessmen on the semi-island so as to discuss cooperation perspectives in reproducing, trading and tourism.
Tomas Armbruster said that due to geographical nearness American side was interested in setting up strong cultural and economic relations between Kamchatka and Alaska. It is important in the light of the fact that China and Japan are aggressively exploring Far Eastern market, said diplomat.
