First-Hand America

VLADIVOSTOK. 3 December. VOSTOK-MEDIA. The exhibition represents photos and video tracks “From Portland to Portland”.
June, 2007 saw Tatiana and Vladimir Sidenko crossing North America from the Atlantic to Pacific Ocean and back in the Volkswagen. While in the journey, the couple took pictures and interviews, they were writing an Internet journey diary.
Vladimir Sidenko was dealing mainly with the video tracks while his wife, Tatiana, was taking pictures. The journey of two journalists has taken 41 days and 9536 miles (15346 km). The main idea of the journey diary was to depict rural America, old colourful streets, wonderful landscapes and remote villages. Participants of the motor race have driven the route that was done 70 years ago by Iliya Ilf and Eugeniy Petrov. They wrote the book “One Staged America”.
Journalists created their own story. Every picture has a story behind which visitors having come to the exhibition live through. They themselves visit the desert Mohave, the town Cody, the capital of cowboys, Rushmore Mountain with presidents’ faces and other tiny places in America.
