International Exercise Takes Place Off Sakhalin Coast

The primary objective of the exercise is suppression of criminal activities on the sea and rendering of salvage services to a vessel in distress and rescue of people

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. June 4. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Joint Russia-Japanese naval exercises with an objective of suppression of criminal activity on the sea and rendering of salvage services to a vessel in distress and rescue of people will be held off Sakhalin shore on June 5.
The exercise will be a demonstration of co-operation of detachments and vessels of the State Border Guard Service of RF Federal Security Service (FSS) and Japan Coast Guard.
According to PR Department of Sakhalin Directorate, Coast Guard, FSS of Russia, the naval exercise will be preceded by a meeting of the Council of Commanders-in-Chief of Border Troops of CIS nations chaired by Gen. Vladimir Pronichev, First Deputy Head of Border Guard Service of Russia.
The representatives of Germany and Finland and antiterrorist agencies of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will also take part in the meeting which will be held on June 4. There are 25 issues on multilateral co-operation between CIS border guard agencies.
