VLADIVOSTOK. October 5. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Today, on October 5, Deputy Mayor of Vladivostok Alexander Zubritsky has held a formal meeting with delegation of businessmen from the sister city of Akita, Japan. The Japanese delegation is led by the Head of the Division for Port Development and Maritime Trade Osamu Sasaki.

The Russian side at the meeting was represented by the Head of International Relations and Tourism Department of Vladivostok city Administration Vyacheslav Kushnarev and Advisor to the Mayor of Vladivostok Vladimir Zakharov. The Japanese delegation included Akita Administration authorities as well as the managing directors of a range of Japan’s industrial, food distributing and export-oriented companies.

“The relationships between Vladivostok and Japanese cities have been developing quite rapidly in recent years,” - stated Alexander Zubritsky. “Not to mention the fact that three of eight sister cities of Vladivostok are the Japanese ones: Akita, Niigata and Hakodate. During the meeting with the mayor of Akita Motomu Hozumi, which was held one and a half month ago, we discussed a number of joint actions to be launched in a near future. Today’s visit of the representative delegation from Japan’s city of Akita serves as a proof of implementation of the joint program. Akita is the twin city with which the Far-Eastern city of Vladivostok has the longest-standing relations. It’s been 17 years since the sister-city relations were established. And the year in which Vladivostok will host APEC-2012 Summit will be the 20-Anniversary of establishing the twin-city relations. It will give fresh impetus and boost to further development of the relations.

Osamu Sasaki, in his turn, handed a letter of appreciation by the Mayor of Akita Motomu Hozumi to the head of Vladivostok Igor Pushkarev, in which the mayor extends thanks for the major contribution to the development of the Russia-Japan relations on a municipal level as well as his intent to visit the capital of Primorsky Krai in the near future and hold talks on joint actions in the framework of the mutually-beneficial cooperation.

During the meeting the managers of a range of Akita-based companies producing spare car parts, light-emitting-diodes and food products have shown samples of their products and expressed a desire to broaden the scope of the mutually-beneficial cooperation with their counterparts from Vladivostok. To give his support to these initiatives Alexander Zubritsky proposed to hold large-scale presentations of economic potential of Akita in Vladivostok and Vladivostok’s economic potential in Akita.

This form of cooperation has proved to be a major success in the cooperation between the capital of Primorsky Krai and Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture and Japanese prefecture Tottori and is believed to be a very effective means of overcoming the global economic crisis, press-service of Vladivostok Administration told RIA Vostok-Media news agency.
