Buddhist Association of China Condemns Tibet Monks

A statement of the association stresses the monks who took part in the riots put an affront to the Buddhists of the whole world.

BEIJING. April 6. VOSTOK MEDIA – The Buddhist Association of China has condemned the actions of monks who took part in the protests in the Tibetan Autonomous District, the Church-Scientific Center Sedmitza reports.



A statement of the association stresses that a real Buddhist never resorts to violence, monks who took part in the riots put an affront to the Buddhists of the whole world. The Buddhist Association of China was established in Beijing in 1953 to protect the rights of Buddhists for freedom of worship.



The bloody demonstrations reached its top on March 14 when nearly 300 fires and numerous attacks on local dwellers were registered in Lhasa. According to the official reports 19 men died and 623 were injured during the riots. The damage caused to Lhasa accounts for 200 mln Yuan ($28 mln).
