Kamchatka Ecologists to Create Salmon Councils to Fight Poaching

VLADIVOSTOK. April 7. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Environmental organizations of Kamchatka and Khabarovsk began to adopt experience of Sakhalin salmon councils, whose work is aimed at protection of spawning streams.

A spokesman for Sakhalin Salmon Initiative told Vostok-Media environmentalists of Kamchatka and Khabarovsk Krai arrived in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to take part in a workshop, which is held by Sakhalin Salmon Initiative for members of salmon councils.

Salmon councils have been operating in Sakhalin for two years. Last year, the councils focused their activity on the fight against poachers at spawning streams of Sakhalin. Environmental organizations of Kamchatka and Khabarovsk took an interest in the counter-poaching operations of the council, Interfax reports.
