XI International Festival of Jewish Culture and Arts Opens in Birobidzhan

The event will be held as part of the 75-anniversary of foundation of the Jewish Autonomous Region

BIROBIDZHAN. September 7. VOSTOK-MEDIA – XI International Festival of Jewish Culture and Arts opens in Birobidzhan. The event will be held on October 8-11, as part of the 75-anniversary of foundation of the Jewish Autonomous Region.

The upcoming festival is one of the major events to take place in the Russian Jewish community. The Government of the Jewish Autonomous Region, the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography as well as the Federation of the Jewish Organizations of the Russian Far East are the organizers of the festival.

Birobidzhan has been hosting the festivals since 1989. The first festivals featured the Chamber Jewish Musical Theatre of Birobidzhan, Vivaldi-Orchestra under direction of Svetlana Bezrodnaya, Oleg Lundstrem Orchestra, Chorus of Mikhail Turetsky as well as various ensembles from USA, Germany, Israel and the central and the far eastern regions of Russia. A series of various events will be held within the upcoming festival. Such famous performers and creative teams as Igor Butman (Russia), Yakov Yavno (USA); Klara Novikova, Leonid Kanevsky, Emmanuil Vitorgan (Gesher Theatre, Russia-Israel), and many others will perform during the festival. Along with concerts and performances there will be a range of other events, including the Stern Film Festival and the educational conference “Limud”, which will be held with the participation of the young people from the USA, Israel and Russia. A book fair, art exhibits, photo displays, Jewish cuisine master classes and many other events will also take place within the festival.

A grand gala night, where almost all performers will be present, will conclude the festival.
