Large International Ring of Timber-Traffickers Busted in Khabarovsk
The criminal group consisted of Russian and Chinese nationals.
KHABAROVSK. February 8. VOSTOK-MEDIA – A large international ring of timber-traffickers has been exposed following the crackdown on illegal traffickers, codenamed “Operation Forest”, launched in 2009 by the Operational Search Department of Khabarovsk Customs Service, in collaboration with Chief Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Russian Far East and Investigation Department, the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutors Office, Snezhana Kantaeva, a spokesman for Khabarovsk Customs Service told Vostok-Media.
The criminal ring, which consisted of Russian and Chinese nationals, dealt with trafficking of roundwood timber from Russian to China using forged documents.
As the result of the operation, 390 cubic meters of aspen sawlogs has been confiscated. The total volume timber exported by the traffickers exceeded 1,900 cubic meters.
