IV Russian-Japanese Meeting of Lumbermen Opened in Khabarovsk

The meeting involved 80 Russian and Japanese businessmen.

KHABAROVSK. April 8. VOSTOK MEDIA – The IV Russian-Japanese Meeting of Lumbermen opened in the city of Khabarovsk today. The event gathered the Russian Far East Association of Timber Exporters (Dalexportles), Japanese Timber Association, Japan Plywood Manufacturers Association and Japan Conference of Russian Timber.
The meeting of lumbermen totally involved 80 Russian and Japanese businessmen. The meetings named Russian-Japanese dialogue were resumed after a 10-year break. The resumption is explained by new export policy of Russia.
At the first two meetings the sides reached agreements and a memorandum on determination of systems for certifying legality of timber and timber export trade, on providing stable supplies of round timber.
The third meeting was focused on the issues of export taxes and shifting the Far Eastern plants to advanced timber processing.
Participants of the current meeting shall discuss development problems of the Far Eastern lumber industry, establishing processing plants in the region and participation of Japanese companies in this process.
The largest banks of the Russian Far East and their branches in the Asia-Pacific countries, the Khabarovsk Krai Timber Industry Ministry, SGS-VLTP Forest Certification Agency and WWF were present at the meeting.
