The Siberian tiger may be left without its primary food supply.

VLADIVOSTOK. December 8. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The Phoenix Fund calls on residents of Primorsky Krai to help wild animals affected by severe snowfall, press service of Phoenix Fund reports.

Yury Bersenev, the Manager of the National Park Zov Tigra (Call of the Tiger) has requested the Phoenix Fund for help to tackle the aftermath of the recent snowstorm which dumped 30-40 cm of snow across the national park. Unfavorable weather conditions caused formation of ice crust afterwards covered with snow, which made it very difficult for hoofed animals to move about and search for food. Meanwhile, the current situation played into the hands of poachers making the slow-moving animals easy prey for poachers.

The national park is a home for many animal species, including more than 50 mammal species and Siberian tiger in particular. Great abundance of hoofed animals, the primary food supply of the Siberian tiger, is one of the key factors of stability of the tiger population.

The manager of the national park believes that it is necessary to remove snow from the roads running along Ussuri River and Milogradovka River as soon as possible to deliver hey and soy to feed the animals. To carry out the biotechnical measures Zov Tigra requires 32,000 rubles. In addition, in view of the current situation the issue relating to formation of counter-poaching teams is especially urgent. To cover inspectors field expenses and fuel another 25,000 rubles is needed.

All those wishing to help the wild animals residing in the National Park Zov Tigra can send paid sms message or make a feasible donation to the Phoenix Fund. The money raised in the framework of the HELP! campaign will be used to take emergency measures aimed at tackling the aftermath of the heavy snowfall in the national park.
