VLADIVOSTOK. February 10. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Vladivostok mayor Igor Pushkaryov took part in a solemn reception held by DPRK Consul-General in Nakhodka Sim Kuk-ryong yesterday, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Russia-North Korea Agreement on Promotion of friendly relations and cooperation.

The reception was attended by Deputy Mayor of Vladivostok Aleksandr Zubitsky, acting Head of Primorsky Krai department for International Affairs and Tourism Aleksei Moiseenko, North Korean consular officials, as well as Primorsky Krai authorities, a spokesman for Vladivostok Administration said.

“It is symbolic that that was the first agreement concluded between our countries in the new millennium,” stated Igor Pushkaryov. “The fact that USSR was the first to establish diplomatic relations with North Korea on Oct. 12, 1948, is symbolic too. Today, we continue developing the time-tested relations of friendship, cooperation, and good-neighborly relations.”

Vladivostok plays a special role in the development of the friendly relations between Russia and North Korea. Vladivostok, along with Moscow, has been visited on several occasions by both leaders of North Korea – Mr. Kim Il-sung and Mr. Kim Jong-il. At present, Vladivostok is the only Russian sister city of Wonsan. The Sister City Agreement concluded between the two cities on Oct. 19, 2009, has already yielded some results: A large portion of building materials for the 2012 APEC summit construction projects is supplied from North Korea. Vladivostok too is expected to supply various goods to North Korea in the nearest future.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the possibility of relocation of the Nakhodka-based DPRK Consulate-General in Vladivostok, which may contribute considerably to the development of mutually advantageous cooperation between the two countries.
