Tottori trade center opened in Vladivostok with the Kagami Wari, the popular in Japan ritual breaking open of a barrel of sake symbolizing the opening of a new business.

VLADIVOSTOK. February 10. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Yesterday, Tottori trade center opened in Vladivostok with the traditional Kagami Wari ceremony, the popular in Japan ritual breaking open of a barrel of sake symbolizing the opening of a new business.

To mark the opening of the trade center, Vladivostok and Tottori officials smashed the lid of the wooden barrel with wooden mallets. After the lid was broken, sake was ladled to wooden cups and given to all the participants in the event.

Kagamiwari ceremony traces back to 15-17 centuries, to the feudal era of Japan. Sake has been traditionally served on special occasions, whereas meals were accompaniments to the beverage. At present, sake is considered to be a sacred beverage in Japan. The new sake is traditionally donated to temples.

Employees at Tottori trade center are expected to hold free consultations on issues relating to organization of business meetings with the potential Japanese partners, provide services of skilled interpreters and promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.
