“Following a phytosanitary inspection of 3,786 cubic meters of Korean pine, Manchurian fir, ajan spruce and dahurian larch, scheduled for export to China, quarantine service officers detected a gross violation of international phytosanitary regulations for export of beetle-infested plants,” said Vitaly Salenko, a spokesman for Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance.

Vitaly Salenko said 136 cubic meters of Manchurian fir and 1,339 cubic meters of ajan spruce were contaminated with European spruce bark beetle.

A Sino-Russian convention on quarantine and plant protection prohibits the export of wood products and plants contaminated with quarantine pests.
