Sakhalin Salmon Park Scheduled for Construction in 2010

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. January 11. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The construction of the environmental education center Salmon Park near the Artek Children’s Camp, on the model of Cascade Streamwatch Aquatic Education and Interpretation Center in Oregon, USA, will begin in 2010.

Sergei Didenko from the Sakhalin Salmon Initiative Center says the engineering survey has been already conducted at the construction site. The engineering report has been submitted to the projector for drawing a sketch plan for the construction. The construction is slated for February.

Sergei Didenko says the Sakhalin Salmon Park will include community recreation area, children’s summer camps, mother and child recreation facility. The Salmon Park complex will include an interpretive hiking path, facility for visiting students to attend classes, study stations at various ecosystem locations, salmon museum, and other facilities.

The complex is expected to operate all year round. Uniquely located, the park will meet the demands of the majority of local residents and tourists serving as a site for fishing, hiking, horse riding and skiing. In addition, visitors to the Salmon Park will be able to take ecological and archeological tours, a spokesman for Sakhalin Salmon Initiative said.
