VLADIVOSTOK. January 11. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The Siberian Huskies team became the winner in a sled dog racing, which was held in Vladivostok.

The Organizing Committee of the dogsled racing told RIA Vostok-media that 40 dogs from allover Primorsky Krai took part in the competition. Among them were Alaskan malamutes, huskies, sheep dogs and Samoyed dogs.

The dogsled races included sledge races and Skijoring, a sport where a person on skis is pulled by dogs. Skijor racers competed in classes for two, four and six dogs.

The professional racers competed in two distances – 1.5 and 3 km.

The Siberian Huskies team won the sled dog competition. The Siberian Huskies were bred as sled dogs. Apart from dog sled racing - they are very popular for recreational mushing and are also used for skijoring.

They were bred by the Chukchi of Northeastern Asia. The dogs were imported into Alaska during the Nome Gold Rush and later spread into the United States and Canada. They were initially sent to Alaska and Canada as sled dogs but rapidly acquired the status of family pets and show-dogs.
