Kamchatka Sea Lions To Be Taken Under Trusteeship
The Kamchatka government will allot 250 000 rubles for reconstruction and broadening of a rookery for the animals.
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. April 11. VOSTOK MEDIA – The Kamchatka Krai Government decided to take the sea lions that live in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky under its trusteeship. The new rookery on the Chavycha Cape will be separated by signs prohibiting visiting of the site.
Local dwellers committed numerous barbarian attacks on sea lions in mid-March. People scared animals with headlights of cars and flare pistols in the night time and therefore forced them to leave the peer and move to the Chavycha Cape. “Visitors” often came with their pets including dogs which disease – canine distemper – is extremely dangerous for sea lions.
Next autumn, scientists say, the animals will forget about their stress and return back to the peer. That is why the Kamchatka government will allot 250 000 rubles for reconstruction and broadening of the old rookery on the peer.
