VLADIVOSTOK. January 12. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The construction of the air traffic control tower in Vladivostok International Airport will get underway in February this year.

The construction project will be carried out as part of the preparation of Vladivostok for APEC-2012 summit. Federal Air Navigation Service is the Government Contractor for the project and Almaz-Antey Concern OAO is the subcontracting organization.

A spokesman for Primorsky Krai Department of Industry and Transport said the control tower will be build in Knevichi village, where the airport reconstruction works are presently underway.

The airport rebuilding project involves the construction of two new air strips, state-of-the-art passenger terminal, air cargo terminal and refueling facilities. After the reconstruction the airport will be capable of handling aircrafts of all types. The capacity will extend to 3.5 million passengers per year.

Primorsky Krai Governor Sergey Darkin believes that the upgrading of the airport up to the international standards will contribute substantially to the development of Primorsky Krai. Experts estimate that after the reconstruction the airport will become the major airport in East of Russia and serve as a hub for flights connecting Southeast Asia with Asian Russia, Canada and the northern U.S.
