Primorye Officials Hold a Meeting to Discuss Kuril Islands Dispute
The round table conference will be held in Far Eastern National University.
VLADIVOSTOK. March 12. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Today, Primorsky Krai Center of Social-Conservative Policy will hold a round table conference themed “The Russian Far East – Territorial Claims as a Reality”. FENU President Vladimir Kurilov, Deputy of Primorsky Krai Legislative Assembly, will chair the conference.
The meeting will be also attended by members of the Parliament, officials, historians, lawyers, veterans of the Great Patriotic War and youth activists, a spokesman for Primorsky Krai Duma told Vostok-Media.
Organizers of the round table discussion say the recent years were marked by the active and persistent statements by the Japanese political elite claiming the sovereignty of the Kuril Islands, as well as by increased propaganda efforts in Japan.
The conference aims at reaching a unified stance of Primorsky Krai community on the issues of territorial integrity of the Russian Far East as well as joining efforts of political and scientific communities and NGOs of Primorsky Krai in promoting this position. At the conference, reports will be presented by the leading experts in the areas of history, international law and Japanese Studies, which will allow it to make a comprehensive overview of the issue in question.
