Primorye Gov’t Seeking Closer Cooperation with Alaskan Business Community

VLADIVOSTOK. October 12. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Vice Governor of Primorsky Krai Igor Uleisky has met with the President of the Alaska Senate Gary Stevens to explore potential areas of cooperation between Primorye and Alaska.

Igor Uleisky told the Alaskan senator about the social and economic growth of Primorye and the major projects presently underway, including the ongoing construction of the APEC forum facilities, a spokesman for Primorye government said.

“The most important are the infrastructure projects that will improve the living standards of the Primorye community,” said Igor Uleisky. “They include the construction of roads, bridges, treatment facilities, the renovation of the Vladivostok International Airport, gas supplies to the cities and villages.”

Along with that, a number of major investment projects are being implemented in Primorye. The Eastern Siberia–Pacific Ocean oil pipeline and the Sakhalin-Khabarvsk-Vladivostok gas pipeline are the strategic projects aimed to spur economic growth in Primorye. In addition, liquefied natural gas and oil carriers, as well as drilling rigs, are set to be constructed in the near future. The construction of the Sollers car assembly plant in Vladivostok is an important milestone in the industry of Primorye.

Vice Governor also told Gary Stevens about the projects in the areas of agriculture, forestry and shipbuilding, jointly run by Primorye and the Pacific Rim business community.

Closing the meeting, Igor Uleisky noted that the Primorye government is looking forward to establishing cooperation with the Alaskan business community in various fields, including fisheries and aquaculture sector.

Gary Stevens said he would consider the proposed projects. He noted that there is a huge potential for expanding cooperation between Primorsky Krai and the State of Alaska in the fields of academic and student exchange, biotechnology projects and air transportation.
