Russian Crew Members of the Sunken Ship Black Rose Returned to Nakhodka

The crew consisted of three Russian nationals, seven Ukrainians and 17 Bangladesh citizens.

NAKHODKA. November 12. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Today, the first officer Sergey Komarov, cook Evgeny Antonov and the mechanist Pavel Zlatoschastyev have returned to Nakhodka after the Mongolian-flagged ship Black Rose sank off the Indian coast in September this year.


According to the Sergey Komarov, the Russian members of the ship’s crew were repatriated after the two-month investigation into the loss of the ship, which occurred at the Port of Paradip on September 9, 2009.


The crew consisted of three Russian nationals, seven Ukrainians and 17 Bangladesh citizens. Engineer officer, a citizen of Ukraine, died. His body was extricated from the state cabin nine days after the accident. All this time the ship was half sunk into the sea. Police and maritime administration of Paradip detained the crew for as long as two months for investigation purposes due to the suspicious circumstances of the ship’s loss. To spend their time on shore sailors were put up in a hotel and prohibited from leaving the premises. At the request of the Russian Maritime Trade Union, the Indian Maritime Trade Union lent a support to the sailors during the investigation. The trade union helped the crew to recover wage arrears and at present the discussion of reimbursement is underway.


The sailors expressed their gratitude to the International Transport Workers Federation for assistance given to the crew of the Black Rose ship, Nikolay Sukhanov, the Chairman of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Maritime Trade Union, told RIA Vostok-Media.
