Hares of the Yakutsk Caused a Stir in Karelia

YAKUTSK. January 13. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The hares of the Yakutsk region caused a stir in Karelia. The scientists state their emergence in this location is ‘ecological racketeering’. Ernest Ivanter, the dean of the biology department of the Petrozavodsk University reported about it at the final session of the State Committee on the conservation and exploitation of wild world of Karelia. According to Ernest Ivanter somebody brought the Yakutsk hares in the Leningrad Region, where they got used to the location and began to settle themselves around the Karelia, in Lakhdenpokhsk region in particular. The scientist says this breed of the hares is dangerous because it is very sturdy and at the same time is subject to various diseases unknown to the hares of Karelia. According to the Ivanter Yakutsk intruders may disturb the ecological equilibrium significantly, and no one knows how to counteract them.
It is clear now why the population of hares in Yakutsk taiga reduced. They were simply brought to Karelia, where they live like fighting cocks and terrorize local fellow creatures.
