Primorye Orthodox Community Celebrates Protection of Most Holy Theotokos
VLADIVOSTOK. October 14. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Archbishop Veniamin of Vladivostok and Primorsky Krai is conducting a service today, October 14, in Vladivostok Cathedral on occasion of the Feast Day of Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos.
The area adjacent to the Cathedral has been decorated with flowers and balloons. The service is led by several priests and a choir of male and female voices.
The feast is being celebrated in all churches of Vladivostok, while services to mark patron saint’s days are held throughout Primorye.
Feast Day of Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos is a great feast of the Orthodox Church, but it is not counted among the Twelve Great Feasts. The feast was established to pay homage to the vision Andrew of Constantinople and his disciple Epiphanus had in 910 of Most Holy Theotokos, surrounded by many angels and Saints, praying and extending Her protection over the faithful. The feast is celebrated only by the Russian Orthodox Church.
