Heavy Snowstorm Hits South of Primorye

VLADIVOSTOK. March 15. VOSTOK-MEDIA – A heavy snowstorm that hit the South of Primorsky Krai early this morning had come from Korean Peninsula and the Sea of Japan, Boris Kubay, head of Primorsky Krai Weather Forecast Service told Vostok-Media.

The melting and refreezing conditions caused accumulation of ice on the power transmission lines, the roads turned into an icy rink. Several road passes in Khasansky and Lazovsky districts were closed. The traffic in Vladivostok, Nakhodka and Ussuriisk is very slow. Although snowplows started to remove snow from the highways early in the morning, traffic congestions occurred throughout the city. Many have to get to their jobs or schools on foot. Officials say the blizzard caused few road accidents. It seems that motorists now drive more cautiously.

Snow will continue throughout the day causing black ice.
