Population of the Primorskiy Krai is Aging and Declining

VLADIVOSTOK. May 15. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Primorskiy Krai came to the point when formation of the population is a critical condition of strategic development.

In 2008 the population of Primorsky Krai reduced to less than 2 mln. In 2009 the number is 1.9 mln people. In 1999 – 2.267.000. According to some reports about 30.000 people left the region in the last year. Moreover, the population aged: the number of people above the working age increased from 16% (1999) to 19.6 (at present) and the number of youths decreased from 20,9 to 15.5%.

For the last two years the number of newborns began to grow that may be well explained by entering in the reproductive age of those born in 1980s. Yet birth rate of is still by 23 % lower than it is necessary for replacement. And after 2010 it is likely that the birth rate will decrease as a result of low birth rate in 1990s.
