Birobidzhan Ecologists Launch Campaign for Preservation of Oriental Storks

BIROBIDZHAN. October 15. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Members of Specially Protected Natural Reservations Directorate of the Jewish Autonomous Region and ecologists started a campaign to preserve the population of Oriental storks. They are cleaning the area around the trees from garbage to protect bird’s nests from fire. According to the representative of the regional Specially Protected Natural Reservations Directorate Nikolay Yakovlev, the protective measures are undertaken by several groups in Oktyabrsky district and Leninsky district. At present, the areas around 10 birds’ nests have been already cleaned. Local branch of WWF took all transport-related expenses. WWF also covers all expenses for carrying out of the census of Oriental storks. The main purpose is to find and register all rare birds’ nesting grounds in the region.
