Russia Experiences Shortage of IT Specialists

By 2015 country’s manpower needs will be met only by half.

VLADIVOSTOK. October 16. VOSTOK-MEDIA – By 2015 the information and communication technologies sphere will be able to meet only half of the Russia’s needs in higher education personnel. The same pertains to specialists with vocational secondary education.


“With a 10 percent growth rate in labor market demand, the country will need at least 13.5 thousand IT specialists per year by 2015,” – Head of Ministry of Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation Valery Bugaenko was quoted by Political News Agency as saying.


“In 2009 some 7.5 thousand applicants entered industry-specific institutions of higher education.” – Valery Bugaenko went on, - “Given the current dropout rates, only 5.1 thousand students will graduate from universities in 2015.” Taking into consideration other universities and second higher education, about 7.7 thousand young IT specialists will graduate from universities in 2015.


“Thus, we will meet only half of the country’s manpower needs.” – he added.
