BMG Steel Co. Shows Interest in Sakhalin Coal Supplies

YUZHO-SAKHALINSK. May 17. VOSTOK-MEDIA – First deputy chairman of the Sakhalin Government Sergei Sheredekin held a meeting with a delegation of Korean company BNG Steel led by the company’s president Chung Il-sun.

During the meeting, the parties continued their talks on cooperation in coal mining industry, which have began on April 14 at the Sakhalin Government Investment Conference in Seoul. BNG Steel Co., a major Korean stainless steel manufacturer, shows interest in Sakhalin coal supplies.

Sergei Sheredkin said that Sakhalin coal miners extract 3.5 million tons of coal yearly. More than a million of tons is supplied outside Sakhalin, including Asia-Pacific markets. He said that the Sakhalin Government is interested in BNG Steel investments and is ready to provide assistance to the company.

During the talks, the Korean delegation was presented some major investment projects, including the Mgachinskoye coal deposit, which has 140.2 million tons of in-place coal reserves, Shirokopadsky subsurface site of Nai-Naisky coal deposit, as well as other coal mining projects.
