Sakhalin Authorities Send Letter of Protest to Japanese Consulate General

One more effort to rewrite history and damage repairing neighborly relations between Russia and Japan is mere political farce

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. June 17. VOSTOK-MEDIA – Earlier today, representatives of the Sakhlalin branch of the United Russia party sent a letter of protest to the Japanese Consulate General in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk responding to the law passed by the Japanese parliament claiming the Southern Kuril Islands an integral part of Japan, said United Russia floor leader of Sakhalin region Duma Alexander Kislitsyn.

‘The decision made by the Japanese parliament is by far unprecedented and goes beyond the scope of widely recognized/international practice of settling controversial issues of whatever nature.’ – commented Alexander Kislitsyn.

Thus, the letter said, here in Russia every kid, who goes to school, knows that Kuril Islands is part of the Russian Federation. After WWII, South Kuril Islands were annexed to Soviet Union. These islands are soaked with the blood of Soviet soldiers and sailors. And that’s why one more effort to rewrite history and damage repairing neighborly relations between Russia and Japan is mere political farce and an effort to draw the minds of Japanese citizens from those problems the Japanese national economy has encountered during global financial crisis.
