Watermelons from Tottori Prefecture – Goodwill Tokens

VLADIVOSTOK. July 16. VOSTOK-MEDIA – 600 watermelons were shipped off from Tottori Prefecture to Vladivostok aboard Eastern Dream ferry on one of its first voyages. During the next two days citizens and guests of Primorsky Krai capital will be able not only to taste those melons but also to purchase them.

According to RIA VOSTOK-MEDIA reporter, the shipment of watermelons from the land of the rising sun was preceded by solemn ceremony in which business representatives, administrative officials, agricultural co-operatives and Governor of Tottori Prefecture took part. Residents, state officials and businessmen of the prefecture are not only interested in marketing development, but also place stakes on Primorsky Krai and the Far Eastern Region. The ferry line Vladivostok –Tonghae – Sakaiminato should play the key role in it.

“The day of dispatch of watermelons to Primorsky Krai is a historic day”, – stated Shinji Hirai, Governor of Tottori Prefecture, “Launching of the ferry line made Vladivostok a connecting link between Europe and Asia. We hope that soon other regions will become closer to us too. From now on, Russia, being closely-located but so very remote in any other way, will be closer to Japanese citizens. I would like to express my hope that the Japanese watermelons grown by residents of Tottori Prefecture will be very popular among residents of the Russian Far East.”

From now on, agricultural products may become one of the key items of export along with cars and state-of-the-art technologies, stated the pioneer of Russian business in Japan Yuri Bulakh, who has been living in the land of the rising sun for over twenty years. “Japanese products are healthy and contain many active ingredients. There is no overland route from Japan to Russia, but there is a sea route. And soon agricultural products as well as other products will be delivered to other regions of Russia through Primorsky Krai”, - the Russian businessmen said.

Primorsky Krai wordsmiths who were present at the festive occasion of the watermelon shipment from Tottori Prefecture to Vladivostok could not only taste the berries, but also share impressions with their Japanese colleagues from central and regional media.
