Implementation of projects that do not meet the ecological requirements can make harm to nature, ecologists say
VLADIVOSTOK. 17 November. VOSTOK-MEDIA. At the press conference coordinator of the UN ecological program “Action Plan in the North Western part of the Pacific Ocean”, Alexandr Tkalin said that certain ecological requirements are not met by Regional Administration while construction of several objects in Primorye.

He gave several examples such as: sewage disposal plant on the semi island De Friz in Vladivostok, petrol processing plant in the Vostok Bay and oil terminal in the Perevozniy Bay.

As it was underlined by Mr Tkalin, for some unknown reason, ecological expertise is not held before the construction begins. “They start construction without any ecological expertise and then they have to cope with problems as no ecological requirements have been met. But finances have been already invested in the construction. It is a managerial problem and these problems have not been tackled”, - said Mr Tkalin.

Alexandr Tkalin is the coordinator of the UN program on ecological action plan implemented in the North Western Part of the Pacific Ocean and programs on marine biology in the Far Eastern Region.

Action plan includes coordinated measures taken by Russia, Japan, China and Korea in order to tackle a problem of garbage in the sea.

At the plenary meeting of the International Ecological Conference “Nature Without Borders” Mr Tkalin reported on the issue of intergovernmental cooperation in the marine protection and coastal management in the North Western part of the Pacific Ocean.
