Maintenance of cadastre of rare birds’ nests and inventory generation of Oriental Stork nests in the Far Eastern nature reserves is crucial for preservation of endangered species.

KHABAROVSK. November 17. VOSTOK-MEDIA - Issues of research and inventory generation of rare birds’ nests were discussed at the regular session of the regional scientific council for the nature reserves of Khabarovsk Krai and the Jewish Autonomous Region. Experts from scientific research departments of Bastak, Bolonsky, Bolshekhekhtsirsky, Bureinsky and Khingansky nature reserves as well as officers of the Institute for Water and Environmental Problems, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IWEP SB RAS), took part in the session.

Maintenance of cadastre of rare birds’ nests and inventory generation of Oriental Stork nests in the Far Eastern nature reserves is very important for preservation and study of the critically endangered species. Thus, the regional programme on preservation of the Oriental Stork, which was passed at the previous session of the scientific council, has been enacted by the RF Ministry of Natural Resources. State budget funds assigned for the implementation of this programme were spent on research of nesting spots of the Oriental Stork in Bolonsky nature reserve and placing additional artificial nests for these species.

The major activities of the regional scientific council, which was established in 2008, include: coordination of activities of scientific research departments of the regional nature reserves, creation and implementation of regional programmes and application of uniform research methods.
